Project description
Construction of two electrical furnaces producing 25000 T/year each of 75% ferro-silicon.  Subsequently the third furnace was added.  A combination of steel and reinforced concrete.  The total volume of buildings is approx. 1888000 m3.  The project furthermore includes water supply systems, drainage of the plant area and transportation facilities.
Location
Grundartangi in Hvalfjörður on the West coast of Iceland.
Scope of Almenna services
Design of all foundation and a great deal of buildings, site preparation, water supply system, drainage, electrical supply and distribution of all service facilities.  Preparation of bid documents and construction management and supervision in cooperation with the client.
Project period
1975 –1980  (Furnace I og II).
1997 – 2000 (Furnace III).
