Ports & Harbours
Harbour construction is a complex and multi-faceted operation involving most engineering fields. Design and planning work for coastline structures has to take many different factors into account, and ensuring harmonious interaction between these structures and the natural environment can be a highly complex task.
Natural phenomena must be considered, such as wave action, the difference between high and low tide, weather conditions and ice formation, as well as traffic requirements, geotechnical conditions, technical planning provisions, city planning requirements, environmental conditions and interaction with existing structures and inhabited areas. When organizing harbour design work, information must be available on wave action, wave height and wave direction, in order to determine the best position for the breakwaters that are intended to protect quays, land areas or buildings. Extensive ground studies must be done, along with other surveys in order to collect basic data.
Almenna Consulting has decades of experience in planning, research and design work for port structures. A team of experts with wide-ranging backgrounds regularly handles projects associated with harbour construction.
