Pumping stations and water purification facilities

Almenna is a leader in the field of consulting services for pumping stations and water purification facilities. In recent years, local authorities have stressed the importance of improvements to wastewater systems in order to ensure compliance with anti-pollution regulations. The City of Reykjavik was the first local authority to launch this kind of initiative with a campaign to clean up the coastline. This resulted in the building of two water purification plants. The facility at Ánanaust went into operation in 1998, and the plant at Klettagarðarin in 2002. Sewer discharge lines were also laid far out to sea, ensuring that the wastewater discharged by them is dispersed by currents flowing at a considerable distance from the coastline. Both the water treatment facilities and sewer lines were designed by Almenna Consulting Engineers. Over the last decade, neighbouring communities have followed Reykjavík's example in improving their wastewater treatment facilities, and Almenna Consulting staff have been in charge of planning and designing water purification facilities for Hafnarfjörður, Reykjanesbær, Akranes, Borgarnes, and Kjalarnes. Almenna also offers consulting services for pumping stations used in water distribution and district heating systems.
