Hydropower Plants

The planning and design of hydropower plants has always been a major part of Almenna Consulting Engineers' services. Our experts help clients produce feasibility assessments for various project options and then provide assistance with the design of structures and equipment, as well as supervising the necessary geological, geotechnical and hydrological research. In addition to design consulting, we also produce risk assessments and the environmental impact assessments that are mandatory for certain projects.

Hydropower plants are expensive projects, and we stress keeping the client informed of the potential profits, costs and risks involved. Over the last decade, our technical experts have handled more than twenty projects during their preliminary stages and have been involved, among other things, in the design of various parts of the Káraknjúkur hydropower project and the supervision of construction of the Kárahnjúkur power plant, the Vatnsfell power plant, the Hágöngumiðlun reservoir, a project to heighten the dam Sauðafellstífla, and construction of the Fljótsdalur power transmission line and the Sultartangi 3 power line.
